A'bulae
Overview:
From DJ Mike H:
Bellagala's home venue.
Sound system is already set up, you do not need to bring anything from the warehouse, unless you're asked to bring a specific piece of equipment.
Two different types of speakers. Background speakers play throughout the ENTIRE venue. The main speakers play through the speakers above the dance floor. Background speakers are used for everything except the dance. Feedback is a possibility when sound is coming from both the background speakers and the dance speakers.
The microphone uses a button which has to be ON for the microphone to work. This is reverse from our mixing boards, in which the only button is the mute button. This can be a little confusing at first.
Lights are controlled from a touch screen. There are buttons on the touch screen which states what each light effect does. For example a button may say 'Strobe' or another will say 'Blackout'. SHANE is the main contact for the lights.
Important venue call questions: 'Will Shane or another person be in tech room during the show?'
Load In:
None. Park your car and walk in with your suit/notes. Everything is already set up.
Challenges:
The speakers will cause challenges because it's very different. Making your announcements over the entire house system and controlling that while trying to control the main speakers during the dance can be tricky. Play around with it once you arrive to get used to the set up.
If you haven't been trained at A'bulae before you MUST email me at djcoordinator@bellagala.com to get you trained before your first show. It really is different.
Extra Venue Call Questions:

I usually test the main speakers with Shane either early on before guests arrive, or during the cocktail hour. This is worth it since more than once, either just the subs are working or just one of the L/R mains are operational, which affects the dance later. Worth checking in with Shane on! Also: a few (occasional) quirks with the Virtual DJ program there. I bring my personal laptop and music library as a back-up. AND: test the wireless mics. They have a long way to go over the wonderfully large venue, and the signal is sometimes affected. Other than that, have fun at one of the BEST venues anywhere. And go say hi to Shane- he's a decent guy with cool bobble-head figures in those tech windows...
