Overview:
From DJ Derek C:
317 on Rice Park is a Fantastic Venue especially if you're a Wild fan! In any case definitely go out of your way to introduce yourself to either Quentin or Adrian. These guys are the venue tech and are EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Like honestly at the end of the night before giving a shout out to the bride and groom, I honestly mentioned them for their huge help throughout the night.
Now LISTEN CLOSELY, because without their help you will be doing A LOT OF CARRYING, LIFTING MOVING AND RUNNING AROUND. You will likely get Quentin if your show is on The weekend. Alright! The layout of the venue is two rooms with a semi long hallway attaching them that is kind of used as a common area. Now the ceremony will likely be in the room with the fireplace and windows looking at Rice Park, and a picture of some old dude on the mantle, he looks like an old G. Anyways, you will likely be to the right of the fireplace in the corner. IF YOU ARE NOT DOING THE CEREMONY DO NOT SET UP YOUR SYSTEM IN THE CORNER. (If so, it is inevitable and you have your work cut out for you!) You will be moving at the end of the ceremony to the middle of the room. (I suggest getting this done right after the ceremony ASAP) Double check with the couple as well as to MAKE SURE THEY ARE USING BOTH ROOMS. Likely they are and if so you will want to move any equipment needed for dinner announcements speaches and a single speaker and anything mp3 that will allow dinner music.
If they have a social hour I would really go the extra mile to cordinate with the venue in order to figure out a solid solution to be able to get music out into the common area. (AGAIN THIS VENUE CAN BE USED MULTIPLE WAYS SO REALLY GET THE GAME PLAN OF WHAT'S HAPPENING AND WHERE!!) If anything just make sure you are ready for dinner in the dinner area down the hall in a room with windows that look out at the Science museum and Kellogg and just do your thing with the grand march and speaches (Also request a small coffee table for the cortex and chair in the corner) and be prepared after dinner to return QUICKLY back to the ceremony room to set up for the dance. AGAIN ASK FOR HELP. These guys are fantastic and honestly are a huge helping hand for you to deliver a solid night for your couple. You will be using plenty of extension cords. The room is decent size you don't really need to raise any speakers and bang anything excessive. Have fun and don't hurt yourself!
Load In:
Easy load-in. Pull right up to the door and turn on your flashers. You don't need a cart because you'll be right by the door.
Challenges:
There are multiple rooms that you could have to setup in. Be sure to contact the client and venue beforehand to ensure you know exactly which room is going to be used for which part of the evening. You'll also want to ensure dinner/dance will be in the same area so you'll know where to set up the majority of your gear when you arrive.
Venue staff was very helpful for Derek and will likely be helpful for you as well. Be sure to call them before to work out the details of how music will be played in certain areas and see if they have a house system you can plug into for the social hour.
Extra Venue Call Questions:
Do you have a house system I can plug into?
Where is social hour taking place?
Where is the ceremony taking place?
Will I interrupt the ceremony if I am setting up for the reception while it is going on?
