Overview:
From former DJ John H, in 2012:
The Prom Center (and before you ask, it’s a family name, apparently) is a huge event center with easy parking, easy load-in, and a massive staff. And two separate rooms.
Loading-in, I was instructed to use the back kitchen double doors. Now, when you come through this huge, bustling kitchen, make sure your path is clear 10 seconds before you journey through. Many a tray of plates or salad dishes or laundry can just appear in your path at a moments notice. Since it’s a kitchen, there’s lots of dollies and rolling carts to choose from. The staff is helpful – but so many will not know you are there, and may take your cart at any time. The front door might seem easier and closer and safer and more effective, but the staff doesn’t want the front doors “to get busy” and so the back it is.
The DJ table is all the way across the room from the head table, and during dinner, there will be 4 8-tops on the dance floor. I raised my speakers as high as I could and had no problems. There’s power on both corners of the room – the left side, unfortunately, has to be snaked out of the double doors and in the hallway, so if you have to choose, plug your lights in there.
Once the dance floor is clear, it’s easy as pie. And after the night is over and most have left, you can break down and bring your equipment out the front doors. Between the wait staff, the event center staff, and the security staff, there’s no lack of helpful faces if you have any issues.
Load-In:
Load-in from the back double doors into the kitchen. Be sure the staff is aware you'll be loading in so you don't run into them while they're working in the kitchen. They should have carts according to John's overview, but he wrote this back in 2012. Talk to the venue to be sure.
Challenges:
You may have to use the outlet that is outside of a pair of double doors. If that's the case tape your cords down so people don't trip.
Extra Venue Call Questions:
Do you have a cart I can use?
Where is the nearest outlet for me to plug in my equipment?
