Overview:
From DJ Derek C:
Lucky you ! You get to party on a boat! It's fun and the venue is full of great people like Sam. Just make sure to call ahead to know what specific boat you are on, how long the trip is and if you are in fact going to be moving. Talk to Sam she will make sure you are taken care of. Arrive early!!! I got so many compliments from the venue and even the ship captain for being on top of my crap! Makes the whole night ride smooth and the crew is very quick to help you out with anything.
Load in is fairly simple, just double check with the venue over the phone if they will let you pull up on the sidewalk chances are they will and then pull up right by the board walk and carry your stuff down, be careful not to drop anything in the water ! Thatd suck !
It is such a great experience I had a blast regardless of how taxing the whole event was. Make sure to know where the ceremony will be held if it is on the same level as the boat. Likely you will have to run an extension from the top of the boat which will likely be outdoors to the bottom through a window under the stairs. Make it look nice, it's not hard to hide the extension so take the time. Ask for a ceremony mixer you may definitely need it, especially if you are on "The Betsy" boat. The reception will likely take place on the bottom, set up so you are not in any main traffic areas it is somewhat of a squeeze. You wont have to raise the speakers too much with the low ceiling. Definitely ask for the boat mic. It makes a world of difference.
If you have uplighting they will likely go in between the boat windows next to the seating.
But enjoy the ride have fun, this will be a fun show!
Load In:
Call ahead to make sure you can pull up to the sidewalk to make for an easier load-in. Be careful when loading in because you're going to be going over a lot of water.
Challenges:
Boats can be difficult because they're more compact and a lot different than your run of the mill wedding. A good client call will go a long way and give yourself some extra time.
Extra Venue Call Questions:
What time is the boat departing?
Do you have a microphone on the boat that I can use?
Can I pull up to the sidewalk to load in my gear?
