Profile Event Center
From DJ Mike H
I had the opportunity to tour Profile Event Center with the venue coordinator, Ashley. First of all, Profile Event Center has it's own equipment and you will be plugged directly into their mixing board and sound system. The only thing you really need to bring is the controller case, with the controller and laptop in it.There is an on-site tech who will be working alongside you to help you get plugged in, so please talk to him before you start plugging into their mixing board. Even though you'll know what you're doing, we want to make sure we're plugging into the lines they want to plug into and that we're getting permission to plug in. This is something we can even mention on the venue call, to ask about which line to plug into and if they want you to confirm with the tech before you start plugging in.
There are two different ballrooms within the Event Center. One, called Casablanca Hall, is definitely bigger than the other and is considered the 'main' event center. In this ballroom, you will be set-up on a stage where all the DJ equipment is permanently set-up. At the other ballroom, called Diamond Hall, which seats about 150 people, you will be up on a balcony and the dance floor will take place below you. This location can be challenging, as you'll have to move from that balcony over to the dance floor when you need to make announcements or start speeches, talk to the couple, etc...
Load In:
The load-in is very simple, you'll just have to pull your car up to the front door and bring in your controller case. That is all you'll need to bring in. I would still suggest arriving early, on the off-chance that something isn't working and we need to bring you some additional gear from the warehouse. Fortunately, the warehouse is located less than a mile from the Profile Event Center.
Challenges:
It can always be challenging plugging into a house system. Make sure you talk to the Event Center during the venue call and get all the information you'll need about their system. You will be working along side an AV tech, so that could be the person to get in contact with before the event.
Special Considerations:
The Profile Event Center has three house DJs, which the venue provides to the client for an additional fee. With that said, the client is more than welcome to bring an outside DJ to the venue. Being that we are an outside DJ, it becomes a little more nerve-wracking for the venue since it's a DJ they're unfamiliar with. Be sure to be in good contact with the venue and make sure they understand you're there to take care of the couple and to help them as well.
Additional Venue Call Questions:
Will the reception be at Casablanca Hall or Diamond Hall?
Do you have an RCA connection I can plug my DJ Controller into?
How many microphones do you have with the system?
Is there a plan for backup music in case somebody were to spill on the computer (or whatever), or should I bring my own backup music? (I can set you up with an iPod for that and the tech can bring you out a new computer in the meantime)
