Mayowood Stone Barn
Overview:
From DJ Mike H:
The Mayowood Stone Barn requires you to use their speakers and their sound system. I'd suggest bringing your speakers anyway, just as backup. When you get there ask to talk to the venue manager and they'll help you get set up into their system. It's pretty easy, you'll just plug the XLR cords into their board (rather than your speakers) from your coffin. Everything else is the same.
They do this because there is a sound limit at Mayowood Stone Barn and neighbors will easily call to complain if they can hear any noise.
If you're doing a ceremony, it will be done either upstairs or outside. Either way, you'll plug into their speakers. They even set up speakers outside for the ceremony. When I did a ceremony outside, everything was all set up, all I had to do was plug my iPod in with a Y Cord they had to play music. The microphone and speakers were all set up and ready to go. I wouldn't bank on that happening though. Call the venue beforehand to see where the ceremony will be.
Sometimes (rarely), you will have the dance upstairs which is in a different spot than the dinner (which is downstairs). If this is the case, you'll have to move your coffin upstairs and plug into the speakers they have upstairs.
The staff is great and are very helpful. Just be careful about your volume. It's going to seem a bit quieter, but I've always had a lot fun at the Mayowood Stone Barn. Beautiful venue.
Load In:
Easy stuff. You can pull up right to the side of the barn and move your equipment to where you'll be set up.
Special Considerations:
You won't use your speakers. Bring them as a backup, but know that you are to be using their speakers. You will plug your XLR cords into their system so be sure you find a staff member who can help you with that. Everything else is the same once you have that plugged in.
Your last song is at 11:00 and not a second after.
Challenges:
The volume limit can cause a problem with the dance and it does feel quieter than normal. Follow their rules. The residential areas around the barn take it very seriously when they can hear and will almost certainly call to complain.
Not using your speakers will be different, but it's not a big deal. The venue does that so they can have more control of volume.
Cocktail hour is usually outside of the barn, so you'll have to set a speaker up outside and play through an iPod or the laptop.
Extra Venue Call Questions:
I will be using your speakers, correct?
Where is cocktail hour taking place?
What is the volume restriction? How many decibels?
