Mississippi Dunes Golf Course
Overview:
From DJ Mike H:
Easy load-in, you can pull right up next to the door and then move your stuff to the table. The table is sometimes behind two pillars and there is no room next to the table to put your speakers, so you have to put the speakers in front of the table, off to the side. Otherwise, you'll be placed on the skinny side of the dance floor.
The venue is a little bit L shaped. 80% of the guests will be in a rectangle shape, but then there's tables farther out from where you'll be set up in a row. Be sure when you test the microphone that you can hear just fine from the farthest back table. Point the speakers accordingly.
During dinner, the speakers may be right next to tables. When this is the case, raise the speakers up so the background music/microphone isn't going right in people's ears.
If you're doing a ceremony, it will be down by the river about 300 yards from the clubhouse. See if they have a cart you can use. Sometimes people will offer you a ride out to the ceremony location with a golf cart. Once you get there, there's a pretty steep slope from the path to the ceremony, so don't use your rolling cart down that, you might lose control!
There is a bartender there that people have said is very unpleasant to work with. Every time I've been there, I've loved the staff and found them very friendly. With that said, be forewarned that I've heard one of the bartenders isn't the kindest person in the world.
Load In:
Easy. Park right next to the main door, turn on your flashers and bring your stuff in.
Challenges:
Ceremony location is quite a bit farther away. Have as much as you can possibly set up for the reception so right when the ceremony ends, you can move right to the reception location.
Slight L-Shape. Be aware of the people WAY in the back and point a speaker in their direction. Also, dinner tables can be close to your speakers so raise those babies up away from the floor.
Unpleasant bartender. I haven't experienced her, but I've certainly heard from people. If she's giving you problems, don't let her bother you or get you down. Understand people have been down this road and if the venue manager, bride and groom are happy, you should be happy regardless of what a bartender says.
