Overview:
From DJ Steve L:
When arriving to Silverwood Park, you’ll be asked to load/unload towards the back of the venue. You may ask staff to use their cart if available to save time from going back and forth from reception room “Great Hall” to car.
Upon arrival, make sure to check in with the wedding or event planner to see where you’ll be setting up, as it may vary for the reception. As for the reception room, it is very large and spacious. So, when setting up speakers, may have to adjust at higher height so that sound may travel across the entire room. Great idea to test out social hour/dinner music before hand to get an idea of how high the volume should be when guests are present.
There are doors that leads to a small patio outside where guests may have cocktail hour, so definitely ask for extra XLR cables as you may have to play music both indoors and outdoors.
Overall, setup is pretty simple compared to most venues.
Load In:
You will load in from the back of the venue. Ask ahead of time if they have a cart.
Challenges:
Very spacious room which can lead to acoustic issues and trouble getting the sound to travel the distance of the room. Be sure to do a check before guests arrive and after guests arrive. Moving the speakers up towards the ceiling can help the sound travel farther, moving the speakers towards the ground can help control the sound and avoid feedback/echo issues.
You may have to play outside for the cocktail hour. Ask me for extra XLR cords, or simply set up a speaker and plug a laptop/iPod directly into the speaker. Then use the wired microphone to make the announcement to have people move to the main ballroom.
Extra Venue Call Questions:
Do you have a cart I can use?
Where will I be setting up for the reception?
Where is cocktail hour taking place?
