Millennium Hotel

Overview:

From DJ Mike H:

The Millennium Hotel is located downtown Minneapolis and the ballroom you'll be in is located at least 10-15 floors up. Pretty cool view and location for a wedding.

Anyway, you'll need a cart to load-in. The hotel certainly should have one, so I've always parked outside the front door where people load in their luggage and carted my gear up to the ballroom floor. It's worth asking if they prefer you to load-in through a loading dock or not.

Usually, the ceremony and dance are in the 'dome', but dinner and cocktail hour happen in the ballroom, just outside the dome. For this reason, you'll have to play music through the venue's sound system which allows for an iPod or laptop to be plugged directly into the system and then through their speakers for cocktail/dinner. You'll have to use the venue's house microphone as well for cocktail/dinner announcements as well as speeches.

If you set up like this, you'll be able to set up for the ceremony and then keep your gear there, because you'll be using the venue's sound system for background music and their microphone for announcements/speeches.

They set up your table in a good location. You're out of the way during the ceremony and you're right by the dance floor once that starts. Be sure to make a good, loud announcements so people know when the first dance is going to begin. It's even a good idea to turn off the background music out in the ballroom and start background music in the dome, to show people that's the place be.

 Load-In:

Ask about a loading dock. I've loaded in through the front door, but I can't say with certainty if that's they way the want you to load-in.

Challenges:

For cocktail/dinner you're plugging either an iPod or laptop into their sound system for background music. You're also using their house microphone for cocktail/dinner announcements and speeches. This shouldn't be a huge challenge, but it requires getting there early to coordinate with the event staff on the music/microphone.

Located downtown Minneapolis, where traffic is always unpredictable. You'll have to unload your gear and bring it up quite a few floors until you're where you need to be.

Extra Venue Call Questions:

Where would you like me to load-in from?

Is there a cart I can use?

Do you have a system I can plug into for cocktail/dinner? Microphone?
